Tragedy struck Saturday evening in the University Community of Akungba in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, as an articulated truck lost brakes and crushed commuters and other vehicles, killing some and maiming others.
It was learnt that the trailer coming from Ikare road had break failure and rammed into two Toyota camry cars, killing the occupants and injuring others.
As at press time, five dead bodies have been evacuated to a nearby hospital mortuary.
There were no police or medical personnel present at the scene, leaving Road Safety officials and Good Samaritans from the town to rescue survivors.
An eyewitness who spoke on ground of anonymity, said the ill fated truck had lost control while descending the hill near Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba.
