Amidst increased rate of crime and criminality in the country, concerned stakeholders in Ondo North Senatorial District of Ondo State, have called on the State government to engage the youths in gainful employment, as a remedy to restive ness, the lure of lucre and crimes.
A retired Naval Commodore and Akala of Ikaram, Oba Andrew Momodu, has called on the Federal Government to recruit eligible persons into the Nigeria Police Force, adding that massive recruitment with sophisticated weapons will help cops to combat domestic crimes.
He further explained that reports shows that the size of Nigeria Police Force has been severely depleted due to retirement and death of officers and men, thus creating vacuum which now needs to be filled.
The monarch also called for synergy between local vigilante Group and other security agencies in order to forestall the predominance of crime in the society.
Yesterday, troops foiled a kidnap attempt at Ibilo-Isua road in Akoko Southeast Area of the State.
The attempted robbery operation was foiled by joint efforts of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies as one bandit was killed while three kidnapped victims regained their freedom.
Piqued by the worsening security situation nationwide, the Olori of Okele Quarters, Akungba Akoko, High Chief Adesegun Samuel Ado, stated that many residents in his community now live in morbid fears, especially Akoko environs that is fast becoming a den for kidnappers.
The Traditional Chief urged security agencies to brace up, live above board and ensure safety of ordinary citizens.
On his own part, the Police Area Commander for Ikare Akoko, ACP Razak Rauf, said residents have prominent roles to play in apprehending the criminal elements. He advised them to report every suspicious movement that can lead to public panic.
He was happy to say that the rate of criminality has reduced drastically in Akoko axis, adding that places like Ikakumo now enjoys perfect tranquility unlike before.
The Police Chief disclosed that heinous crimes like ritual killings, kidnapping and bank robbery were rife in the area, in times past.
