Interview with Hon.Ogunleye Olugbemi Gbolabo, who is an Assembly aspirant for Akoko south west constituency 2 in Ondo State.
Why do you want to contest as lawmaker?
I am very expose having worked with federal parastatal, upstream , downstream oil and gas sector as well as Civil Liberty Organisations,..These has prepared me to champion wide range of opportunity to serve my people in preparing their mindset to defeat 21st century challenges. I found myself very competent as an egalitarian voices of the people as my people has always disturbing me to run for this position and I am trusting God because voice of the people is actually the voice of God. I am a grassroot man per excellent who leverage on selfless assistance which I had rendered for the people right from secondary up to date will speak for me at the poll.
At what point did you develop interest in politics?
I have developed kin interest in politics right from my primary and secondary school being a class captain throughout, up to university i played significant role in student union politics which many of my course mate can attest to always being a leader who has been very compassionate about the yearnings of the people. Since 1999 I have been physically present in all electioneering campaign in my constituency despite my tight busy scheduled. I worked for Governor Rotimi Akeredolu during 2012 election in two different campaign committees both in Security led by Hon.Femi Adekanbi and Media/ Publicity led by Mr.Idowu Ajanaku also served in Akeredolu/Aiyedatiwa campaign as a committee member.i was also appointed as the National Coordinator Muhammadu Buhari Grassroot Mobilisation Network during his second term campaign. i have track records of contributing to the people in my constituency as my popularity develop my interest in politics. People in my constituency supported me when I lost my father at a very tender age this is the time to pay them back with selfless service for development of humanity.
What impact did you hope to achieve?
Public opinion and people oriented motions would form my priority agenda by lobbying my colleagues and executives through vociferous representation.
I will introduce constituency renaissance strategies, revival of classical learning in agriculture, education,art and science,transportation, market,sports etc.
Being an Agrarian environment. We will provide agric support loan with periodic meetings to identify their needs.
Education-we shall have coaching centers in all the wards and hire qualified teachers to teach them in all major subjects English,maths,physics,chemistry,biology,accounts,literature ,government and history.
The best performance gets scholarship to the university which this initiative would address poor performance in WAEC and JAMB.
We shall make the right policy to curb all forms of harassment especially sexual ,drugs,child labour and child trafficking.
We shall enlighten our young girls against unwanted pregnancy and to encourage our boys to use their youthful age on something meaningful
We shall have regular town hall and workshop to address and review above strategic plans.
Many believe that state lawmakers are only there to do the bidding of state Governor and not protecting the public interest?
I will change this perception by always protecting the interest of the people against Governor ‘s rubber stamp legislature there is going to be a total paradigm shift to this assertion if elected would stand against abused of legislative power and encroachment of executive to undermine principle of separation of power by the special grace of God almighty.
How do you hope to change these?
We are in the race to change many of these perception by Nigerian .it is right to say that lawmakers has failed the people they represent but we are here to correct this anomaly by giving them a listening and robust representation by regular consultation with the people through community to community town hall meeting where I would be a good listener to their yearnings and aspiration. We are not in the race to start sharing money but to add values vie laudable laws and policies partnering corporate and non governmental organizations on some people oriented projects on health,education,skill acquisition,employment and small scale businesses etc.
I would be very outstanding and articulate to present bills that would inject behavioural and attitudinal change that is needed to have a rebirth of a new society in order to address numerous societal problems where I have always been ”AN APOSTLE OF A BETTER SOCIETY”
You are a young politician what do you have for the youth?
This is a very challenging generation where youths need to think in a universalistic dimension and reorientation as windows of opportunity is getting narrow everyday. We need to adopt models of Malayia ,Sigapore and india to develop ourselves geometrically and I have intention of spreading this gospel of prosperity across the federation using my constituency as a starting points.
I will make sure no child is left at home without going to school
Sport development where talented young boys and girls would be supported in order to expose to competitions and club.
Talent development will be our priority agenda in all facet of human endeavors.
I will encourage people to learn trade as foreigners from Togo and Benin Republic etc must be restricted from taken over construction jobs met for our youths in Nigeria.
Youth would be conscientized and sensitized the need to shun violence, cultism and other social vices that is inimical to their future.
I would vigorously championed ‘’ not too young to rule’’ .
Youth would be encouraged to take responsibility as hope of the society.
Have you developed your campaign budget?
Absolutely yes .Our campaign budget is going to be implemented according to the stipulated approved budget within the confines of the law.
