The Senator representing Ondo central at the National Assembly, Adeniyi Adegbonmire, SAN, has fulfilled one of his campaign promises by influencing the inclusion of the dualisation project of Akure-Ondo-Ore highway in the 2024 National Budget signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently.
The Senator representing Ondo central at the National Assembly, Niyi Adegbonmire, SAN, had in November, 2023 during an interactive session with Journalists in Akure, declared that his major aspiration is to see to the dualisation of Akure-Ondo-Ore highway because of its importance to motorists.
Adegbonmire lamented the hardship travellers now faced on the road which serves as the only link to the Northern parts of the country from Lagos following the deplorable condition of other link roads.
Findings by SUNSHINETRUTH News correspondent indicated that Senator Adegbonmire who is a member of Senate Committee on Appropriation, apart from being the Chairman, senate committee on schools of Agriculture and institutions as well as Vice chairman, Senate committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, lobbied the Executive arm and his colleagues at the upper chamber to include the important road project in the budget.
Independent investigation also shown that the Ondo Central Senator worked assiduouslly with the Senator Adeola Olamilekan Yayi -led Senate Appropriation committee to ensure the dualization project of Ondo-Ore road into 2024 budget.
A source at the National Assembly said, “He (Senator Adegnonmire) had three months ago, during his chat with journalists vowed that he would ensure the inclusion of the dualiation of the Akure-Ondo-Ore road. He really tried for his people. I think the project drawing work has started.
“They (FG officials) promised to begin the drawing and other things that will lead to the commencement of the road this year,” the source said.
The lawmaker said the project if executed would go a long way in improving socio-economic activities of his constituents and Nigerians plying the route.
Meanwhile, in the spirit of festive period during the Xmas and new year celebrations, Senator Adegbonmire put smiles on the faces of his constituents by distributing over 900 50kg bags of rice to all the six local government areas of Akure South, Akure North, Ondo West, Ondo East, Idanre and Ifedore under Ondo Central senatorial district.
The Senator also gave out cows, rams, cash and other gift items to traditional rulers, political leaders, religious leaders and various groups in his constituency.
