The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has started distributing Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in preparation for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, made the announcement during a meeting with representatives of political parties at the INEC headquarters in Abuja on Thursday, October 17.
“With just 29 days until the Ondo governorship election, today's meeting is a crucial step. Only two days ago, the Commission handed over the voter register to political parties at our state office in Akure," Yakubu stated.
He further explained that INEC has successfully completed 10 out of the 13 tasks outlined in the election’s timetable. The remaining activities include the publication of the Notice of Poll, the final day of campaign activities, and Election Day itself. Yakubu reiterated that updated copies of the timetable had been provided for guidance.
Yakubu noted that all political parties involved in the election have complied with the requirements for uploading their polling and collation agents. INEC is also working on distributing identification tags to the 24,148 agents listed on the portal.
Additionally, Yakubu confirmed that the collection of PVCs from the last Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) began on October 17 in Ondo State.
For the next five days, voters can collect their PVCs at any of the 203 wards in the state, after which collection will move to INEC’s local government offices from October 23 to 29. Collection centers will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The commission has also published the addresses of the 221 collection centers on its website for public access.
