Gov. Oborevwori committed to fulfilling campaign promises –DG

…Clarifies Sapele Content Creator Was Released the Same Day

As the dry season approaches, Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, is poised to ramp up road rehabilitation and reconstruction across the state’s 25 local government areas, fulfilling his election campaign promises as outlined in the MORE Agenda.

This assurance was given by Dr. Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, Director General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, during an interview with a national radio station in Lagos on Tuesday. He affirmed that Governor Oborevwori is already making significant strides in delivering on his commitments to the people of Delta State.

In response to recent controversy surrounding the arrest of a Sapele content creator, Mr. Uge Elo Kenneth, Oghenesivbe clarified that the individual was briefly apprehended, questioned, and subsequently released the same day by law enforcement officers. He emphasized that the arrest was not ordered by Governor Oborevwori, explaining that the police acted on their own authority, as per legal provisions.

Oghenesivbe also highlighted that Governor Oborevwori, a staunch advocate for democracy and free speech, would never authorize the arrest of any citizen for expressing concerns about local issues, such as the condition of roads. He emphasized the governor's strong connection with the people and commitment to hearing their grievances.

The DG further noted that several roads in Sapele are currently undergoing rehabilitation or reconstruction to improve traffic flow in the area. He added that additional roadworks will be undertaken during the dry season across the state, as part of the administration’s plan to address infrastructure challenges in phases, depending on available funding.

Oghenesivbe reaffirmed the governor’s determination to ensure that all deteriorating roads in Delta State are either rehabilitated or reconstructed during his tenure, while also focusing on other critical sectors of the economy. He urged all Deltans, regardless of political affiliation, to support the governor in advancing the state's development.

“Governor Sheriff Oborevwori is a true democrat, deeply rooted in democratic principles, and a seasoned grassroots politician. He respects the rule of law, supports freedom of expression, and understands the rights of citizens to demand accountability and good governance.

“The arrest of the Sapele content creator was not ordered by Governor Oborevwori. The young man was briefly detained and questioned by law enforcement agents as part of their lawful duties, and he was released on the same day. The governor would never infringe on the fundamental rights of citizens.

“Furthermore, the governor remains committed to improving the health and safety of all Deltans, and while the content creator may have sought attention for road conditions, exposing oneself to health risks is not a responsible approach. Governor Oborevwori cares deeply about the well-being of all residents.

“The MORE Agenda is designed to benefit all Deltans, and constructive criticism is welcomed, as it serves as valuable feedback for the government to enhance its efforts in infrastructure development and economic growth,” Oghenesivbe said.
