Ondo APC Women Hold Mega Rally Ahead of 2024 Poll

By Fidelis David, Akure

The Women’s Wing of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State organized a Mega Rally on Monday, demonstrating their strong support for APC candidate Lucky Aiyedatiwa and his running mate, Olayide Adelami, as they approach the November 16 governorship election.

Leading the rally in Akure, the state capital, Mrs. Olamide Falana, Special Adviser on Gender Matters to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, praised the governor’s commitment to gender inclusivity, highlighting his appointment of the state’s first female finance commissioner and other women to leadership roles.

She noted this as a testament to Aiyedatiwa’s dedication to affirmative action, supporting a 35 percent reservation of elective positions for women across political lines.

Falana pledged that Ondo State women would deliver at least one million votes for the APC in the upcoming election.

“Today, we come together to rally around and support our candidate, Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa. He has shown remarkable commitment, and the young women of Ondo State are truly fortunate,” she said.

Falana also commended the administration’s efforts in healthcare, emphasizing the governor’s commitment to maternal care and free healthcare for children under five, supported by the ‘Kadi Igbe’ayo’ initiative, which has been in place for years.

“Governor Aiyedatiwa is a leader who values continuity and believes in building on achievements to ensure better governance,” she added.

Furthermore, Falana highlighted recent initiatives by the governor, such as microcredit loans for artisans and workers, boosting the local economy, and a 500-million-naira investment for market improvement.

She also mentioned a one-billion-naira allocation for farmland clearing, which eases the financial burden on farmers.

“We are truly fortunate in Ondo State to have a governor who empowers women and gives us a place of pride in the state’s political sphere,” Falana stated.

Supporting the rally, APC South West Women Leader Yetunde Adesanya and Ondo State APC Women Leader Mojisola Lijoka voiced their confidence in Aiyedatiwa’s election on November 16, urging women to secure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in preparation.

Mujidat Folasade Tinubu-Ojo, President Bola Tinubu’s daughter and Nigeria’s Iyaloja-General, expressed optimism that Aiyedatiwa’s administration would further gender balance and women’s empowerment.

She stated that APC women support Aiyedatiwa because they trust he will continue creating opportunities for women in business and politics.

The event saw the presence of prominent APC women leaders from across the state and nationwide, all rallying in unity for Aiyedatiwa’s candidacy.
