Professor Adebukola Foluke Osunyikanmi, a renowned scholar in Political Science, will present the 29th Inaugural Lecture at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria.
The lecture, titled "Democracy and Gender Inclusion: Synthesising Political Phenomena for Good Governance", is scheduled for Tuesday, October 22, 2024.
As announced by Prof. Adebisi Daramola, Chairman of the University Ceremonies Committee and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Administration), the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, will preside over the event.
The lecture will take place at the University’s Multipurpose Hall, starting at 2:00 pm, with guests advised to arrive by 1:30 pm.
Prof. Osunyikanmi’s academic background includes a Bachelor of Science from the former Ondo State University, Ado Ekiti (1993), a Master's degree from the University of Ibadan (1997), and a Ph.D. from Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (2010), where she also earned a second Master’s degree in 2006.
She began her career at the university on January 10, 2001, as an Assistant Lecturer in the Department of Political Science. Over the years, she progressed through the academic ranks, becoming a full professor in 2019.
Prof. Osunyikanmi has held numerous leadership positions within the university, including Head of Department, Director of the Women Studies and Development Centre, and member of the 5th Anniversary Ceremonial Organizing Committee. She is also the founder and editor of the Journal of African Women and Gender Studies. Her academic influence extends globally, having attended conferences in countries such as the USA and the UAE.
An accomplished author, Prof. Osunyikanmi has written three books, co-authored two, and published over 30 articles in reputable journals and newspapers. She is an active member of several professional organizations, including the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs (NIIA), the Mid-South Sociological Association (USA), the Gender Studies Association of Nigeria, the National Political Science Association (Nigeria), and the Institute of Policy Management and Leadership Development (IPMLD).
