The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly detained Senator Ifeanyi Okowa, the immediate past governor of Delta State, over allegations of misappropriating and embezzling billions of naira in state funds during his administration.
According to The Will, Okowa was taken into custody at the EFCC’s Port Harcourt Zonal Office in Rivers State. While the EFCC has not yet officially confirmed the arrest, the investigation reportedly centers on financial misconduct during his tenure as governor from May 2015 to May 2019.
Senator Okowa, who served as the vice-presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections, has a background in medicine. He represented Delta North in the Senate from 2011 to 2019 and previously held the role of Secretary to the Delta State Government.
