The ancient town of Ikare-Akoko, the headquarters of Akoko North East Local Government Area in Ondo State and a key commercial hub in the Akoko region, was alive with celebration this past weekend as it marked the 40th coronation anniversary of the Olukare of Ikare Kingdom, Oba Akadiri Saliu Momoh IV, JP CON.
The week-long festivities concluded on Saturday at Lenon Jubilee High School, drawing a host of dignitaries and indigenes from far and wide to honour the esteemed first-class monarch.
The event was a vibrant showcase of cultural heritage and entertainment, reflecting the unity and pride of the Ikare people.
In his address, Oba Akadiri Saliu Momoh expressed heartfelt gratitude to the people of Ikare-Akoko for their unwavering support throughout his reign. He acknowledged the pivotal role of the late High Chiefs in his ascension to the throne, while pledging continued dedication to the progress and harmony of the community.
The Olukare remarked, “Through God’s grace, Ikare has grown significantly under my reign, transitioning from a township to a city. I urge all sons and daughters of Ikare to work together to propel our town to greater heights, as peace is essential for development."
Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, represented by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Amidu Takuro, commended the monarch for his steadfast service and transformative leadership over four decades. The governor praised the Olukare's resilience and prayed for continued prosperity for Ikare-Akoko under his reign.
Similarly, Senator Jide Ipinsagba, representing Ondo North Senatorial District, lauded the monarch's achievements and called for sustained support from the community to further the town’s development.
The celebration also featured the unveiling of a book titled The Crowned Legacy: Glorious Reign of HRM. Oba (Alh.) Akadiri Saliu Momoh IV, JP CON, the Olukare of Ikare. The book, reviewed by Prof. Busuyi Mekusi of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, chronicles the remarkable journey of the Olukare’s four-decade reign.
Elder Alex Akande, Chairman of the Central Planning Committee, described the anniversary as a milestone worth celebrating, expressing hope that it heralds a new era of peace, progress, and blessings for both the monarch and the Ikare community.
The festivities left no doubt about the deep respect and admiration the people of Ikare hold for their traditional ruler, whose leadership continues to leave an indelible mark on the town's history and progress.
