Gov Oborevwori harnessing the MORE agenda to transform Delta

On May 29, Delta State entered a new era of leadership as Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori was sworn in as Governor. Guided by a vision to elevate the state’s economic, social, and infrastructural development, he introduced the MORE Agenda—a strategic framework prioritizing Meaningful Development, Opportunities for All, Realistic Reforms, and Enhanced Peace and Security.

In less than two years, Governor Oborevwori's administration has leveraged the MORE Agenda to unlock Delta’s untapped potential, delivering remarkable progress and laying the groundwork for a Greater Delta.

Meaningful Development: Advancing Infrastructure and Urban Growth

Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to infrastructural growth has transformed Delta’s landscape. Under his leadership, roads, bridges, and urban renewal projects have flourished, with contributions from notable firms like Julius Berger. Beautification initiatives in Asaba and Warri, alongside enhanced drainage systems, have mitigated flooding while elevating the state's aesthetic appeal.

The rehabilitation of highways connecting Warri, Asaba, and Ughelli exemplifies the administration’s focus on improving connectivity and reducing travel time. Decaying roads across the state are being restored, aligning with the Governor’s vision of sustainable development and modern urban planning.

Opportunities for All: Empowering Citizens

Inclusivity remains a cornerstone of the MORE Agenda, with empowerment programs tailored for youths, women, and entrepreneurs. Notably, the Delta CARES Program has brought relief across all senatorial districts, while the Delta State Youth Entrepreneurship Program (DSYEP) has equipped over 5,000 youths with skills and resources for thriving businesses.

The Women Empowerment Scheme has provided grants, soft loans, and workshops, enabling women to drive local economic growth. Agriculture, a key sector, has also received a boost, with calls for the establishment of farm estates focusing on crops like tomatoes, yam, cassava, and rice to enhance food security and create jobs.

Realistic Reforms: Strengthening Governance

Transparency and accountability have been hallmarks of Governor Oborevwori’s administration. Improved revenue generation, streamlined budgeting, and public service reforms have enhanced governance.

In education, initiatives like the Teachers’ Capacity Development Program and investments in digital tools have revolutionized teaching and learning, equipping students to compete globally.

Enhanced Peace and Security: Promoting Unity

Understanding that development thrives in peace, the administration has prioritized security and conflict resolution. Collaborations with traditional rulers, youth leaders, and security agencies have fostered stability, reduced crime, and promoted grassroots community policing. Programs like the Delta Peace Corps empower youths to champion peace in their communities.

Transforming Lives: Voices of Deltans

The MORE Agenda’s impact resonates across the state. Farmers celebrate the success of agricultural schemes, while market women in Effurun thrive with accessible loans. From urban centers to rural communities, the administration’s initiatives are transforming lives.

A Legacy in the Making

As Governor Oborevwori approaches two years in office, his leadership embodies vision, commitment, and inclusivity. The MORE Agenda is not merely a promise but a transformative roadmap for Delta State.

With two more years before the next election, the Governor’s widespread support signals a bright future. Delta State is well on its way to becoming a model of progress, unity, and sustainable development—an achievement for other states to emulate.
