Mudashiru Obasa, the former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, remains in the United States amid the fallout from his recent impeachment.
Obasa was removed from office last Monday over allegations of corruption and misconduct, but his supporters in Agege Constituency 1 have strongly defended him, dismissing the accusations as politically motivated.
On Friday, loyalists and community leaders gathered at his constituency office in Agege to address the situation and strategize on how to counter what they see as false claims.
“The accusations against Obasa are merely rumors,” said Omodele Morufu, Chairman of the Community Development Committee for Agege Local Government Area. “If Obasa decides to run for governor with God’s backing, we in Agege will be proud.”
Morufu further emphasized the importance of spreading the truth and standing against any misleading narratives.
Chief Ganiyu Egunjobi, Executive Chairman of Agege Local Government, also expressed his support, saying, “Obasa remains a key figure in Agege politics. Regardless of the Assembly’s actions, he is a man who has contributed greatly to our community.”
Oba Egbeyemi Lateef Oladimeji, the Alaige of Orile Agege Kingdom, weighed in by describing the situation as a political issue among lawmakers. “Obasa has been supportive of me and our community,” he said.
Speculation continues to swirl around the impeachment, with political observers suggesting that it may be more about Obasa’s ambitions for the 2027 governorship race than the corruption allegations themselves.
Following his removal, former Deputy Speaker Mojisola Meranda was elected as the new Speaker, making history as the first woman to hold the position.
