The Interior Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has praised the successful conduct of the local government election in Ondo State, describing it as a triumph for democracy and grassroots governance.
The election, held across the state’s 18 local government areas on Saturday, witnessed widespread participation. While congratulating the winners, the Minister also commended other contestants for their courage and sportsmanship.
He highlighted the election as evidence of Nigeria’s evolving democratic institutions and the dedication of Ondo State citizens to peaceful and transparent governance.
“In every democratic exercise, there will be winners, but this election is truly a victory for all. The peaceful conduct of the electorate and the fairness exhibited by all stakeholders underline the unity and maturity of democracy in Ondo State,” Tunji-Ojo stated.
He urged the newly elected officials to prioritize delivering the dividends of local government autonomy, as championed by the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The Minister further commended the Ondo State Independent Electoral Commission (ODIEC) and security personnel for their professionalism in ensuring a credible process.
He also extended gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support in strengthening democratic institutions nationwide and acknowledged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for creating an enabling environment that facilitated a free, fair, and credible election.
Tunji-Ojo reaffirmed his confidence in the people of Ondo State to sustain this progress and expressed his wishes for continued peace, prosperity, and growth in the state.
