The Senator representing Ondo North Senatorial District in the 10th National Assembly, Jide Ipinsagba, has highlighted the proposed establishment of an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) University in Ikare-Akoko as a significant step toward empowering the youth and fostering economic growth in the region.

Speaking to journalists in Ikare-Akoko, Senator Ipinsagba underscored the necessity of equipping the younger generation with the skills needed to thrive in today’s digital economy.

“As the representative of my senatorial district, I am deeply committed to promoting development and enhancing the well-being of my community. I have been working tirelessly towards establishing an ICT university in Ikare-Akoko, and I’m excited to share this vision with you all,” he stated.

The Senator elaborated, "The decision to establish an ICT university in Ikare-Akoko stems from my desire to equip our youth with the critical skills and knowledge needed to succeed in today’s fast-evolving digital landscape. In a world where technology is transforming the way we live and work, it is essential that we provide our young people with the tools to succeed.”

He emphasized that, “This ICT university will not only create employment opportunities for our youth, but it will also stimulate the local economy. The institution will become a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship, attracting businesses and investors to our region.”

Further detailing the project, Senator Ipinsagba noted, “The proposed university will be one of the most advanced and specialized institutions in sub-Saharan Africa, offering a unique opportunity for our community to advance in terms of development and progress.”

The Senator also shared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed strong support for the creation of more universities, particularly those focused on ICT and specialized fields that can fuel economic development.

Beyond its economic potential, the university is expected to positively impact the social fabric of the community. “The presence of this university will foster unity, pride, and a sense of ownership within the community. It will create a vibrant, dynamic atmosphere, making Ikare-Akoko an even more attractive place to live and work,” he said.

Senator Ipinsagba pointed out that while there have been talks about the creation of a new state for Ondo North, he views the establishment of the ICT university as a crucial step toward achieving that objective. “By demonstrating our capacity for growth and development, we strengthen our case for statehood and create a brighter future for our people,” he added.

The Senator reaffirmed that the establishment of the ICT university in Ikare-Akoko is essential to empowering future generations and fostering sustained economic growth and development in the region.

He expressed his commitment to turning this vision into reality and reiterated his willingness to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure the success of the project.
