JUST IN: Speeding truck kills popular trader in Akure, okada rider escapes unhurt

A tragic road accident claimed the life of a well-known furniture trader, popularly called “Daddy Ese,” on Friday morning at Opa Junction/Olokuta Village, near a private polytechnic along Ondo Road in Akure.

As reported by Sunshinetruth, eyewitnesses reported that a speeding truck collided with a commercial motorcycle (okada) carrying the victim.

The impact crushed the trader, killing him instantly, while the motorcycle rider miraculously escaped without injuries.

Instead of stopping to assist, the truck driver attempted to flee the scene. However, other road users, along with military personnel, gave chase and successfully apprehended him.

The tragic incident left the victim’s wife devastated, as she was seen weeping uncontrollably at the scene.

Reacting to the accident, the Chairman of the Okada Riders Association at Adebowale Junction, Akure, Mr. Monday Desmond, appealed to the government to widen the road, emphasizing that several lives had been lost due to its narrow structure.

Similarly, the Ondo State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Dr. Samuel Ibitoye, urged motorists to exercise caution while driving, particularly on narrow roads. He warned that any driver found violating traffic regulations would face the full weight of the law.

It is worth noting that the Federal Government recently approved and commenced the dualization of the Akure-Ondo-Ore highway in an effort to curb frequent accidents and prevent further loss of lives.
