Former Vice President of Nigeria and presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has denied claims circulating on social media that he has resigned from the party.
The denial came following a viral report from an unverified Facebook page known as "Adamawa Happenings," alleging that the former vice president had dumped the PDP.
In response, Atiku's media adviser, Paul Ibe, described the report as false, malicious, and a deliberate political smear campaign.
“There is no truth whatsoever to the claim. His Excellency Atiku Abubakar remains a bonafide and loyal member of the PDP,” Ibe said in a statement released on Friday.
He further criticized the source of the rumour, accusing unnamed political actors of spreading misinformation in an attempt to cause confusion among Nigerians.
“This is not just fake news — it is a crude, shameless political hatchet job,” Ibe stated, urging the public and Atiku’s supporters to disregard the claim.
He reaffirmed Atiku’s commitment to the PDP and the democratic aspirations of Nigerians.
Atiku Abubakar served as Nigeria’s Vice President from 1999 to 2007 and has contested for the presidency multiple times under the PDP banner.
